Adding a New Upsell Funnel

To add a new Upsell Funnel, follow the quick and easy steps below:

1. Click the "Add New Funnel" button in the top-right corner.

2. Give your new funnel a unique Name. By default, your first new funnel will be named "New Funnel 1".

3. Add your "Trigger Product" conditions and the Offer(s) you'd like made.

4. Click the "Publish Funnel" button once you're ready to go live!

Trigger Types and Conditions

After you add a new upsell funnel and name it, the "Triggers" for the funnel should be selected and defined. A trigger product is the product that will trigger the particular upsell funnel to show, when a customer adds and/or purchases a product on your store.

πŸ“All upsell funnels created prior to 5/16/22 will be automatically converted over to the new trigger conditions logic described below.

Click the "Select Triggers" button within the funnel to start adding new trigger products and defining additional conditions (if desired):

On the "Trigger Conditions" screen, select from the list of available conditions which include:

  • Product - A specific product or products (including any future product variants added in Shopify admin).

  • Product variant - A specific product variant or variants (excludes any future product variants added. Future variants added in Shopify admin will need to be manually added as triggers for the funnel if desired).

  • Collection - A specific collection of products. Only products included in the collection at the time of selecting the collection will be included as triggers. To include future product(s) added to the collection, the "Sync Collection" button needs to be clicked.

  • Any product - Any/all current and future products on your store.

  • Items quantity - A specific number of units of a product. Options include, but aren't limited to; equal to, more than and less than.

  • Total value - A specific total value of product(s) added. Options include, but aren't limited to; equal to, more than and less than.
πŸ“For Pre-Purchase, total value refers to the subtotal of products added to cart (excluding taxes, shipping and automatic discounts). For Post-Purchase and TY Page offers, total value includes shipping, taxes, and other extras (VAT tax, duties).

  • Customer tag - Use the customer tag condition to show/hide upsells for customers with a specific tag. Customer tags can be added/removed on a customer's details page in the "Customers" section of your Shopify admin:

OCU requires permissions for using Customer tags by clicking the "permissions" link. If permissions are not provided then the Customer tags list will be empty:

πŸ“For pre-purchase offers, OCU tracks customer tag only if the customer is logged-in to their account on your store. Non logged-in users will not see pre-purchase offers, except for the case where the funnel is setup with the customer tag trigger and "is not" operator. In that case, the non logged-in customer will meet the trigger condition and will be shown the offer.

"is" and "is not" operators are available for Product, Product variant, Collection and Customer tag triggers to include/exclude certain conditions to more clearly define the trigger logic.

"Or" and "And" operators are also available, allowing you to make the trigger conditions as specific or non-specific as desired. OR means that any condition should be true to make the trigger valid. AND means that all conditions should be true to make the trigger valid:

For example, multiple Collections can be defined as the trigger for an upsell funnel using the "OR" operator and selecting additional collection(s):

As another example, it can be configured to use multiple collections, but exclude a specific product or products as a trigger using the "AND" and "is not" operators:

These are just a few examples of what can be done using trigger condition logic! After you've added your trigger conditions, don't forget to click the "Save" button to save changes.

Back in the Funnel Builder view, you will see a summary of the trigger conditions added. To make any edits or adjustments, click the "Edit Triggers" button:

Adding Post-Purchase Upsell and Downsell Offers into the Funnel

Once the funnel has been created, you will automatically be redirected to the Funnel Builder, so you can start adding the offers you'd like to make to your customers!

A Post-purchase offer is an offer shown to your customer on a separate page, immediately after they've completed their initial order. This is where the real magic of OneClickUpsell comes into play πŸ“ˆ πŸ’°

The offer is able to be added to the customer's original order with a single click or tap! The customer will not be required to go back through the checkout process or re-enter any information.

*A preview of how the one click post-purchase upsell offer page will be shown on Mobile (left) and Desktop (right):

To add a one click post-purchase offer to your funnel:

1. Click the "Choose Product" button below the Post-Purchase Upsell Offer #1 slot within the upsell funnel.

*If you've already added Upsell 1, then choose either Downsell Offer (Optional) or Post-Purchase Upsell Offer #2 (Optional) instead.

πŸ“We recommend adding Post-Purchase Upsell 1, Post-Purchase Upsell 2, and the Downsell Offer into each funnel. This will ensure your customers will see 2 post-purchase offers for each qualifying order, regardless of whether they accept or decline Post-Purchase Upsell 1.

2. In the "Create Post-Purchase Offer" popup, choose one of the following:

  • Add a product to the order (feature one product on the page)

  • Add one of 3 products to the order (feature up to 3 products on the page)

  • Copy an existing offer

3. Click the "Save" button.

4. Select the product you'd like to offer in the "Add product" popup.

5. Click the "Add" button.

6. Once the post-purchase offer has been added to the funnel, the offer page that your customers will see can be edited by clicking on the product card.
More details about working with the post-purchase offer page editor can be found here in our help article.

πŸ“Repeat this process for the Downsell Offer (Optional) and Post-Purchase Upsell Offer #2 (Optional) slots to fully build out your funnel with offers.

For upsell funnels where only digital products are added as Triggers, it's recommended to only use digital offers, since there's no ability to collect the customer's shipping information.

Adding a Post-Purchase Multi-Product Offer

This post-purchase offer type will show up to 3 products on the page, but will only allow the customer to add one of the offered products to their order. It's a great option to use if your trigger product has multiple complementary products and you want to give your customers different options to choose from.

πŸ“β€œSplit Tests” are not currently available for the multi-product post-purchase offer type.

To add this offer type to your funnel, follow the quick and easy steps below:

1. Select the "Add one of 3 products to the order" option when adding a new post-purchase offer to any funnel and click the "Continue" button:

2. Select the products you want to be used in the "Add products" popup by checking the box next to each, then click the "Add" button:

3. The multi-product offer will be added to the funnel and is ready for editing.
Click anywhere on the offer card to open the editor where you can further edit your post-purchase offer page and the offers being made:

πŸ“If you haven't used all 3 available product slots, a "Choose Product" button will be located below the post-purchase offer card where you can add additional product(s) if desired.

4. Within the post-purchase page editor, you can edit both the appearance of the page and the offer products you've added to it:

5. The "Buy Boxes" section is where offer product editing is performed, the remaining sections are for the page appearance and styles. To edit a particular offer product, either click into the Buy Boxes section and then on the product you want to edit OR click on a text element for a particular product in the preview window:

The remaining steps for editing a post-purchase page and the products is basically the same as gone over above in the "Working with the Editor" section of this article. Refer to the information there for further details.

πŸ“If you'd like to change the order in which the products included in the post-purchase multi-product offer are shown, follow the quick and easy steps below:

Adding a Pre-Purchase Upsell Offer

A pre-purchase upsell offer is an offer that is made before the customer is redirected to Shopify Checkout to pay for their order. The pre-purchase popup for a funnel can be shown in one of two locations:

1. On the Cart Page (/cart) after the customer clicks the "Checkout" button from there. It will also show after clicking the "Checkout" button included in AJAX Carts (drawer/slider) for Shopify Themes. The customer will be redirected to the Checkout page after interacting with the pre-purchase popup on the Cart Page.
πŸ“Not compatible with "accelerated checkout buttons" (PayPal / ShopPay / Amazon Pay, etc) included on the Cart Page or AJAX Carts.

2. On the Product Page (/products) after clicking the "Add to Cart" button there. Choose this option if you want the pre-purchase popup to be triggered earlier on in the purchase cycle. The customer will be redirected to the Cart Page (or your AJAX Cart will be shown) after interacting with the pre-purchase popup.
πŸ“Not compatible with "dynamic checkout buttons" (PayPal / ShopPay / Amazon Pay, etc) included on Product pages.

πŸ“To change where you want the pre-purchase popup to be shown, click on the "Change Location" button below the Trigger Products section at the top of the funnel builder:

There are currently 3 different types of pre-purchase upsell offers you can use:

  • Add a product to the Cart - Adds one unit of the product to the cart

  • Add multiple products to the cart (up to 5 products) - Adds multiple products to the cart, including in different quantities (optional)

  • Upgrade an existing product in the cart - Replaces one unit of one product with another
πŸ“If the funnel trigger type is either "Collection" or "All" and the customer adds multiple triggers to the Cart, the Upgrade product replaces the first trigger product in the Cart

*A preview of how the pre-purchase upsell offer popup will be shown on Mobile (left) and Desktop (right):

To add a pre-purchase offer to your funnel:

1. Click the "Choose Product" button below the Pre-Purchase Upsell Offer (Optional) slot within the upsell funnel.

2. Choose the type of pre-purchase offer you'd like to make to your customers:

  • Add a product to the cart

  • Add multiple products to the cart (up to 5 products)

  • Upgrade an existing product in the cart

  • Or Copy an existing pre-purchase offer you've already created in a different funnel

3. Select the product you'd like to offer in the "Add product" popup.

4. Click the "Add" button.

5. Once the pre-purchase offer has been added to the funnel, the offer popup that your customers will see can be edited by clicking on the product card. More details about working with the pre-purchase offer popup editor can be found here in our help article.

Adding a Thank You Page Offer

The Thank You Page offer is made directly on the Shopify "Order Confirmation" Page. This offer can be paid for using any payment method you've connected to Shopify Checkout and is also able to be paid for using a different payment method than the original order.

*A preview of how the TY Page Offer will be shown on Desktop (left) and Mobile (right):

To add a pre-purchase offer to your funnel:

1. Click the "Choose Product" button below the Thank You Page Offer slot within the upsell funnel.

2. Choose the TY Page offer you'd like to make to your customers:

  • Create new offer

  • Copy an existing offer

3. Select the product you'd like to offer in the "Add product" popup.

4. Click the "Add" button.

5. Once the TY Page offer has been added to the funnel, the offer that your customers will see can be edited by clicking on the product card. More details about working with the TY Page Offer editor can be found here in our help article.

Funnel Priority

Only one Upsell Funnel will be used per customer order in most cases. Once you have two or more Upsell Funnels created, you can set the Priority for them.

You can create multiple Upsell Funnels and each funnel can have the same Trigger Product, for example, there is no restriction for that. A customer is also able to add multiple different products to their Cart, with each one being a trigger product for a different funnel you've created.

Funnel priority logic is used when the cart contains two or more trigger products from different funnels. If this is the case, the trigger product associated with the funnel with the highest priority will be used for the order.

πŸ“There is the scenario where the funnel that is used for post-purchase offers can change if the customer adds your pre-purchase offer which is also a trigger product for a different funnel with a higher priority. In that scenario, the funnel with the higher priority will be used to show post-purchase offers instead of the original funnel which triggered the pre-purchase offer showing.

To change the funnel priority:

1. Click the "Change Priority" button.

2. Drag the Upsell Funnel rows into the desired order.

3. Once finished, click the "Done" button.

4. Click the "Yes" button in the "Save Priority Order?" popup to confirm the change.

Upsell Funnel Status

The Status column indicates whether a particular upsell funnel is published/enabled or not. A published funnel starts to work immediately on your store if the OCU app is also in an enabled state.

To publish an unpublished funnel OR to unpublish a published funnel, simply click on the Status switcher for a particular funnel:

The same action can be accomplished from within an Upsell Funnel as well by clicking on the "Publish Funnel" or "Unpublish Funnel" button respectively:

Upsell Funnel Actions

The following Actions are available for Upsell Funnels you've created:

  • Edit Funnel: Go into the funnel to add new offers or edit existing offers. The same action can be invoked by clicking directly on the Funnel Name.

  • Edit Properties: Change the Trigger Type (Product/Collection) or Funnel Name of your Upsell Funnel.

  • Duplicate Funnel: Make an exact copy of the Upsell Funnel

  • Delete Funnel: Delete the Upsell Funnel(s) if no longer needed
πŸ“You will need to confirm the delete action in the "Delete Funnel?" popup that is shown to complete this action.

Upsell Funnel Statistics

The Statistics available for your Upsell Funnels can be categorized into three main views: Post-Purchase / Pre-Purchase / TY Page Offer

Post-Purchase is selected by default. To switch between views to see statistics for each offer type, make your selection by clicking on the corresponding button:

A Date Range selector is provided so you can define statistics from a particular time period. The last 30 Days are the default. Click on the date selector to choose from a list of pre-defined ranges or to choose a custom one from the calendar.

Click the "Apply" button after you've made your selection:

The following Statistics are available for each Upsell Funnel:

  • Views - The total number of times the funnel was triggered. If the Upsell 1 product was never changed for the funnel, then the total number of Upsell 1 views within the funnel will be the same as Views for the upsell funnel itself.
πŸ“Views for the pre-purchase offer type are only counted for completed orders.

  • Conversion - The conversion rate for the funnel. Calculated using the following formula: Conversion = (# of times upsell 1 was bought + # of times downsell was bought)/Funnel View

  • Total $ - The sum total of all upsell/downsell offer products bought in the funnel.

  • $/Visit - A relation between Total product revenue vs how many times the upsell/downsell offers were shown.

You can sort your Upsell Funnel Statistics in ascending/descending order by any of the above statistics by clicking the statistic name at the top of the respective column:

πŸ“Your Orders which contain a pre-purchase offer, post-purchase offer(s) and/or thank you page offers can easily be found in your Shopify admin Orders area by searching for the following tags there:

  • OCU Zipify Post-Purchase Upsell Bought

  • OCU Zipify Pre-Purchase Upsell Bought

  • OCU Zipify TY Upsell Bought

Post-purchase Offer Sequence

The main goal of the OCU app is to increase your store's Average Order Value (AOV) by making relevant and targeted upsell offers to your customers that are complementary to the product(s) they've just bought. If you can get each customer to add just one extra product to their order post-purchase, your AOV will skyrocket! πŸš€

OCU has your customer's purchase experience in mind so, therefore, a maximum of 2 post-purchase one click upsell offer pages can be shown per order.

Post-Purchase Upsell 1 from the funnel will be shown first. If the customer accepts Upsell 1, then Upsell 2 will be shown next. If the customer declines Upsell 1, then Downsell 1 will be shown next.

In both cases, the customer will be taken to the Shopify Order Confirmation page (Thank You Page) after the second post-purchase offer has been presented, whether or not they accept or decline the second offer.

If you've added a Thank You Page offer to your funnel, the TY Page offer will show directly on the Shopify "Order Confirmation" page.

*Assuming you have added all 3 post-purchase offers to your funnel (recommended).
