Segmentation is dividing your audience to target subscribers based on what they bought, where they came from, how much they spend, and more. Segment subscriber audiences based on behavior or events, all leading to more relevant marketing.

Segments are groups of subscribers, segmented by specific criteria, that you can send targeted Campaign messages to. Segments also update automatically, as new subscribers who meet the segment criteria are added by Kinnekt.

Use segments to make your SMS marketing campaigns smarter, by targeting specific groups of subscribers and sending them campaigns tailored to their interests or demographics.

There are currently two types of Segments available in the Kinnekt app:

  • Auto-generated - These types of segments are generated automatically by the Kinnekt app with pre-defined criteria based on subscription source. Examples of auto-generated segments include: All, Keyword, Mobile Popup, Shareable Link and Checkout
    📝Kinnekt creates a new auto-generated segment each time a new Keyword is created OR Checkout is turned on. These segment types are not able to be edited, only deleted.

  • Manual - These types of segments are created manually and defined by specific criteria such as; subscription source, customer data and order status

Creating a new Manual Segment

In this example, we'll create a subscriber Segment (audience) of Customers who have placed an order within the last 30 days and have spent more than $25

  • Click the "Create New Segment" button

  • Give your new segment a name, something relevant to the audience you're creating I.e. Customer - Ordered in last 30 days spent over $25

  • Under Rules, you define the criteria for the segment

  • Select "Money spent" under the Customer category, choose "Greater than" and enter 25 into the value field

  • Click the + Add Rule button to add an additional AND rule

  • Select "Last Order Created" under the Customer category, choose "Equal to" and select "Last 30 Days"

  • Click the "Create Segment" button and the segment will be created!

Segment Actions

Actions available for Segments include:

  • Click the "Show more" link below a Manual Segment name to see segment rules assigned to the particular segment

  • Click the ✏️ icon to Edit your Manual Segment

  • Click the 🗑️ icon to Delete a Segment
    📝Deleting a segment does not delete the subscriber from your subscriber list and unsubscribe them. It only deletes the specific segment (audience) they belong to within Kinnekt
