How do I track and understand Catalog Search results?

Written by ZP Support Team

Catalog Search tracks whether your products appear when shoppers search Shopify's global product catalog — the catalog behind agentic shopping channels like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Shop.

Tracking a search

Select Add track, enter a query a shopper would type (such as "ceramide cleanser"), and select Track. ShopRank starts checking it right away and re-checks every tracked search once a day; the header shows when results were last refreshed.

New rows show a Checking… status until the first check finishes. You can also track a query in one click from the Suggested searches card, which recommends searches based on your top products.

On the Free plan you can track up to 3 catalog searches. A banner shows your usage, and trying to add beyond the limit prompts you to upgrade to Scale for unlimited tracking. Deleting a search frees a slot.

Reading the tracked searches table

Each row shows a query, how many of your products land in the first-page results, your best position, and the listing health of your matched products. Use the search box and filter tabs to focus on searches where you're not visible or have listing issues. Select any row to open its details.

Understanding a search's results

The detail page shows how you rank for a single search:

  • Visibility over time — Your best position and how many products reach the top 10, tracked over the last 90 days

  • Top results — The first-page results in order, marking your products and competitors, with each of your products' listing checks

  • Listing issues — Where a matched product has issues, select Edit product to fix them in a window over the page; the row updates when you close it

  • Also indexed — Your products that appear for the search but rank below the first page

  • Preview this search — Open the query on ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Shop to see it yourself. Results there may differ from the catalog snapshot ShopRank recorded

You can re-run a check or stop tracking a search from the top of the detail page.

Why you may not see results

  • Your shop is still finishing its initial sync, so tracking isn't available yet

  • A search was added recently and its first check hasn't finished
